Urban Drain Cleaning – Complete
- Project Status: Completed
- Completion Date: December 2024
Following the February 2022 natural disaster, the Lismore drain network suffered extensive damage. The community assisted with petitioning for funding which was secured in mid-2024 to remove silt from open drains in the central Lismore area. The funding secured by the community submission allowed Council to complete significantly more urban stormwater maintenance and achieve meaningful improvements for affected residents.
A Lismore-based earthworks contractor was selected to manage the work one road section at a time. Works commence in South Lismore starting with Casino Street, Kyogle Street, Caniaba Street, Phillis Street and Engine Street.
Thank you to the community’s patience and cooperation during the works. We understand that the funding did not cater for each and every road in Lismore and their specific needs. The open drains are part of Lismore stormwater drainage system and each element of this network needs maintenance such as this. Lismore Council engaged a contractor who excavated approximately 6750m of open drain within the township during a 3 month period.
The project completed excavation works in several streets including Barnes Avenue, Bright Street, Caldwell Avenue, Cathcart Street, Caniaba Street, Casino Street, College Street, Cromer Street, Crown Street, Diadem Street, Edwards Street, Elliott Road, Engine Street, Esmonde Street, Garrard Street, Kyogle Street, Magellan Street, Maloney Street, Military Road, Nielson Street, Sunshine Place, 262 Three Chain Road and Walker Street (East Lismore).
