Northern Rivers Rail Trail – Lismore to Bentley Update

The Northern Rivers Rail Trail is converting disused railway line into a 132km trail, to draw thousands of visitors each year to explore and discover the natural beauty of the Northern Rivers. Delivered across four stages, the trail runs from Tweed through Mullumbimby and Lismore to Casino.

The construction of the third section by Lismore City Council from Lismore to Bentley (16.3km) is now underway, with the second section from Bentley to Casino (13.4km) by Richmond Valley Council opening this month!

Lismore City Council is pleased with the progress to deliver the third section, with the removal and recycling of railings and sleepers completed. The design elements for pause points and rest stops have been finalised and approximately 3km of the trail surface has been constructed. Council is on track to deliver the 16.3km Lismore section in the latter part of 2024.  

Meanwhile, the Tweed section of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail has continued to attract visitation to the region with 130,887 visitors being welcomed since it opened in March 2023, achieving an average monthly visitation of 14,085 visitors.
