What is happening in the recovery journey of our LGA?

Following the adoption of Lismore’s Destination Management Plan in March 2024, Council is exploring opportunities to develop visitor information services to meet the needs of visitors across the Local Government Area (LGA).

Council has established a few initial locations in Lismore as Visitor Information Hubs, as a pilot to make information more visible and accessible to visitors. Council is also exploring opportunities to co-locate visitor information outlets and is currently developing a new destination website with increased visitor functionality, and producing marketing collateral that local businesses can share with visitors.

The current Visitor Information Hubs can be found at:

  • Lismore Pop-up Library – 146 Magellan Street, Lismore
  • Lismore City Council Corporate Centre – 43 Oliver Avenue, Goonellabah
  • Terania Building – 59 Magellan Street, Lismore
  • GSAC – 50 Oliver Avenue, Goonellabah

Any businesses wanting visitor information brochures, please contact the Destination team at tourism@lismore.nsw.gov.au.

ABC Youth Takeover

The ABC Youth Takeover took place in Lismore last week. The event saw local high school students collaborate to envision some new programs and events to support youth and the wider Lismore community. Many of the youth noted that post floods, there had not been much for young people to do in Lismore LGA, thus some of their ideas were around tidying up Lismore, creating a multicultural event and holding a youth festival.

See the ABC website for more specifics and for future updates on ways for your teens to potentially become involved.

Resilient Kids Youth Participation programs

The Lismore PCYC is one of eight community organisations that will receive $150,000 from the Resilient Kids Youth Participation program, funded by Healthy North Coast. It is part of an Australian Government funded $10 million initiative to support disaster recovery for Northern Rivers young people, post floods.

Five programs will be funded, including “FIT for change” which focuses on value building and employment readiness in a 10-week program for 12 people ages 14 – 16 years. The Lismore PCYC will also offer Safe Drivers courses for driving skills enhancement, a “FIT for life” before school breakfast and fitness program for at-risk kids, term-based activity and holiday passes for fun, skill-building activities and an All Ability Gymnastics program for people with limited abilities.

These programs are set to run in July after the third school term. For more details, please contact the PCYC on (02) 6621 6276 or see their website.
