Controlling our Indian Myna population

Council does not currently hire Indian Myna bird traps.

The Indian Myna, a notorious pest in the Northern Rivers, poses a threat to native wildlife due to its rapid breeding and displacement of indigenous species.

To combat this issue, Lismore City Council and Richmond Landcare have initiated the Indian Myna Control Project. This endeavour encourages residents to participate in trapping the birds by offering a small fee to rent traps crafted by volunteers.

A diverse group of volunteers, including farmers, is actively engaged in trapping the birds on private land. Additionally, local veterinarians are providing assistance with euthanasia methods. Originating in 2009, the project is in need of more volunteers to effectively manage the Indian Myna population.
