Protecting our wildlife

North-east NSW is home to a rich and diverse wildlife population, including 45 species of non-flying mammals, 31 species of bats, 400 species of birds, 87 species of reptiles, 43 species of amphibians, and 48 species of freshwater fish.

Customers may contact Council to report a swooping magpie and/or enquire about what can be done in these situations.

Controlling our Indian Myna population

The Indian Myna, a notorious pest in the Northern Rivers, poses a threat to native wildlife due to its rapid breeding and displacement of indigenous species.

Weeds

The Northern Rivers region in New South Wales has a high number of listed weeds, including 100 noxious weeds and 187 environmental weeds.
