Comprehensive Koala Plan of Management

The Comprehensive Koala Plan of Management for southeast Lismore (CKPoM) aims to safeguard the significant koala population in the region by offering clear guidance on managing potential risks to koalas and their habitat through policy and planning provisions.

It provides a framework for assessing development applications that incorporates koala conservation principles to ensure the protection of koalas' natural habitat and food trees.

Additionally, the CKPoM outlines specific management activities to address potential threats such as habitat clearing, disease, road accidents and dog attacks.

To guide the management actions outlined in the CKPoM, a study was commissioned in 2017 to analyse koala habitat and population in the CKPoM area. This study is repeated every 3 years to provide long-term monitoring of the koala population, with further studies being undertaken in 2020 and 2023.
