Flood waste removal changes means disposal fees will apply

Published on 19 December 2022

Public Works has informed Lismore City Council that from 31 December 2022, it will no longer directly manage, or pay for the removal of flood waste.

Unfortunately, this means that from 1 January 2023, flood waste will no longer be accepted free of charge at Lismore City Council’s Recycling & Recovery Facility in East Lismore.

Under the disaster management process, Council partnered with Public Works Advisory (funded by the State and Federal governments) to dispose of hazardous flood waste free of charge. To-date, more than 220,000 tonnes of flood waste has been collected and removed from across the Northern Rivers.

Disposal of any flood-related waste at Council’s waste management centres in East Lismore and Nimbin will incur a charge from 1 January.

Council thanks Public Works for their assistance to date and looks forward to working in partnership to continue rebuilding a resilient and prosperous Lismore.
