Lismore City Council is extending an invitation for six community members to join a delegation to visit our Japanese Sister City Yamato Takada, as part of the 60th-year anniversary celebrations, which also coincides with the renowned Cherry Blossom Festival in 2024.
This unique opportunity is open to community members who wish to be ambassadors for Lismore and is a distinctive occasion for those who aspire to represent Lismore, further strengthening the longstanding bond between our two cities.
Lismore City Mayor Steve Krieg emphasised the importance of the Yamato Takada friendship and that this delegation will provide unique and valuable experiences.
“Community members have the opportunity to make new friends, connect with people from different parts of the world, and build bridges between different cultures,” he said.
“This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Lismore and Yamato Takada, making it Australia's oldest Sister City relationship. It will be a very special delegation program and I encourage anyone interested to apply for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
All applicants are urged to diligently review the Eligibility Criteria and Delegates’ Requirements before submitting.
All delegates will need to fund their own associated costs, including accommodation and airfares, with delegates arriving in Yamato Takada by Friday, 29 March 2024, and are set to depart on Thursday, 4 April 2024.
Interested individuals can access application forms online via the Council’s website and physically at the Council’s Corporate Centre.
Expressions of Interest will remain open until 5pm on Tuesday, 31 October 2023.
Lismore City Council deeply values the enduring friendship with Yamato Takada and eagerly anticipates the collaboration and experiences this delegation visit will bring.
