Lismore Mayor Steve Krieg said registrations for the popular Lismore Workers Masters Games had reached a significant milestone, with more than 1000 competitors participating in the 12th biannual event.

With registrations closing this Friday, 18 August, all potential participants who are yet to register and are eager to compete in any of the 13 sports available are reminded to complete their registration as soon as possible.

The event will be held from Friday, 22 to Sunday, 24 September 2023 with lots of options to appeal to the sporting community.

The 13 sports available are golf, baseball, cricket, road cycling, fitness challenge, football, five-a-side, hockey, lawn bowls, netball, OZTAG, softball and pickleball.

The popular Masters Games has a reputation for being a great social occasion, with many participants and their supporters taking the opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones.

This year's games are set to build on this reputation, with those registering eligible for a free ticket to the Lismore Cup on Thursday, 21 September. Mayor Krieg said besides the tremendous social impact it would have, he was also excited about the positive economic benefits the Games will bring to our region.

“The games are set to draw more than 1000 competitors plus visitors to the city, with estimates suggesting it will generate more than $400,000 for the local economy,” he said.

“This is our 12th biannual Lismore Workers Masters Games, and we are very excited to have one of our premier sporting events return after the 2021 games were cancelled due to COVID-19. The Games are about enjoyment and connection, being physically active and enjoying the hospitality of our great city.”

Mayor Krieg also highlighted the commitment of the Lismore Workers Club as the major sponsor of the games.

“I would like to thank the Lismore Workers Club for once again coming on board as the event's major sponsor,” he said.

“The Workers Club has been the major sponsor of the Lismore Masters Games every year since the games were first created in 1999. This is an incredible commitment to Lismore.”
