November 2024 update
The Lismore Public Toilet Upgrades project continues, with works through November on the amenities blocks for Albert Park, McKenzie Park, Neilson Park, Nesbitt Park, Riverview Park, Sam Trimble, and Visitor Information Centre.
Works have now been completed at the Sam Trimble brick building, nearing completion at Riverside Park, and have commenced at the Visitor Information Centre Building with demolition of internal walls and slab preparation for the extension to provide a parent’s room and larger accessible toilet. Construction of Nimbin Toilet Block to service the pool, skatepark/playground and Rainbow Walking Track will commence in early 2025.
About the project
Council is responsible for several public toilets across the LGA, and throughout the next 12 months, 23 of these are proposed to undergo upgrades and restorative works.
Through undertaking annual inspections and required maintenance as part of the Delivery Program, Council identified these projects and are now completing the works based on funding provided from the NSW and Australian Government and Section 7.11 Contributions funding.
The works are now being prioritised to ensure facilities are user friendly and comfortable for the community and visitors to use, as we continue to build back better.
External designs and fixtures have been replicated across many of the new build facilities, for improved maintenance (including replacements), and accessibility. Individualised floor plans and layouts have been considered to suit useability and amenity per location, and all new build facilities will adhere to disability and ambulant access standards.
These projects ensure access to clean public amenities at local parks and rest stops is available for our residents, and visitors to our community.
