Lismore City Council is implementing changes to waste collection services to deliver cost-efficient and sustainable operations for our community. Affected households will receive a letter from the first week of July 2024 outlining the changes to their current service and any action required.
May 2024 – August 2024
In Lismore, 7.1% of the population require assistance with daily activities due to disability. This equates to over 3,000 individuals in our community lacking access to clean, safe and hygienic public toilets in the CBD. Recognising this need, Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Group highlighted the necessity for an adult change facility in Lismore's CBD, as documented in the Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2017–2020, following extensive community feedback.
In December 2022, Council successfully secured $244,725 from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund (SCCF) for the Lismore Transit Centre Changing Places Facility. This initiative aims to enhance the wellbeing of regional NSW communities. By incorporating a changing place in the CBD, we can better meet the needs of all community members, enabling people with disabilities and their carers to spend more time in town, enjoying dining, shopping, accessing services and socialising.
The Transit Centre is an ideal location for an accessible toilet, benefiting those using bus services in and around Lismore, as well as regional travellers. Council's dedication to providing supportive infrastructure ensures that Lismore remains a desirable place to live, an easy place to work and a welcoming place to visit.
