Strategic purpose To help reinvigorate our inner-city laneways precinct and attract more visitors

The concept design for the Lismore Laneways Project was created using ideas and feedback from community members and businesses.

The feedback helped create a design that reflected community priorities and included the elements that people most wanted to see - predominantly greenery, lighting, seating and art installations.

Works included:

  • new street furniture installation in Carrington Street and Eggins Lane (near Embassy Arcade);
  • artwork installations on Carrington Street and Eggins Lane;
  • replacement of existing small bins in Carrington Street with dual bins (waste and recycling) with artworks on the sides (See our Your Art on Bins project page);
  • installation of decorative lighting in Carrington Street and Eggins Lane;
  • landscaping works in Carrington Street;
  • installation of retro phone booth “activation pods” in Carrington Street (See our Listening Booth project page);
  • installation of wayfinding signage throughout the precinct; and
  • refresh of existing road pavement paint in Carrington Street.

In the Heart

The playful and quirky 'In the Heart' by Lismore artists Holly Ahern and Eden Crawford-Harriman certainly dominates the corner of Magellan and Carrington streets and is sure to bring a smile to the faces of visitors to our CBD.

Inspired by Lismore City Council’s much-loved Come to the Heart logo, the artwork featured two large vibrant pink arms embracing a pulsating heart with “YOU ARE HERE” in bright neon inviting all to come and experience the “heart” of Lismore.

Built from recycled plastics with ground-breaking 3D printing, this work was fabricated by the world-class workshop Studio Kite in the hills of the Northern Rivers. 'In the Heart' and 'The Antechinus Family' by 2021 Brunswick Nature Sculpture Walk winner and installation artist Andrew Cullen were part of the Lismore Laneways Project. 'In the Heart' was installed in November 2021.
