Information on running a small home-based business

If you work alone and are interested in establishing a low-key, home-based business, such as a home office or hairdresser, a home occupation may suit your business.

The Lismore Local Environmental Plan 2012 (LEP 2012) details definitions, requirements and specific issues which are common to the establishment of home occupations. You can find this information in LEPs and DCPs.

The LEP 2012 states that development consent is not required from Council for the establishment of a home occupation providing no building works are required to be undertaken and it is not being undertaken in an area where a vehicle is housed, i.e. a garage or a non-habitable room.
